What is Manama Singers Mission ?
The Manama Singers produce regular and high profile concerts of good quality music
in Bahrain. Our aim is to provide an informal opportunity for enthusiastic singers of
all standards and nationalities to sing in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. (No
auditions necessary.) The income from our concerts allows us to donate significantly
to local charities.
WELCOME!
Welcome to the official website of the Manama
Singers. We are a multicultural group of enthusiastic
and committed singers from all walks of life who
perform the finest of choral works.

The CROWNE PLAZA has become our sole large
concert venue enabling us to perform all our concerts
of recent yearsat their luxurious convention centre.
We thank them for their wonderful support.

Animal Magic:   At very short notice, the singers put on
a November 6th autumn concert in which animals
were the dominant feature of the content. John
Rutter's Wind in the Willows, based on the well-known
children’s stories by Kenneth Grahame, was
performed, together with a selection from Andrew
Lloyd-Webber’s Cats and some delightful ensemble
work on various animal themes.   Two charitable
donations were made to The Dogfather, a local animal
welfare home, from the proceeds arising from this
concert.

June 2010 took Manama Singers and audience on a
new musical adventure in the performance of
rhythmically  challenging but equally uplifting ‘African
Sanctus’ with the composer David Fanshawe’s
inspirational  presence.   It was a terrible shock to
learn of David’s tragic and untimely passing some
weeks after being so much a part of our performance
here in Bahrain.  Tribute's to David and his work may
be seen on the web site
www.davidfanshawe.com

On Saturday March 21st 2010 Bahrain Audiences were
treated to a well-loved classic, the Mozart Requiem.
One of our best  performances ever, an authentic
baroque sound wove an orchestral and choral spell in
a way that only Mozart can.  Neighbouring gulf states'
musicians and singers contributed large vocal and
instrumental components.

On  Friday  November 13th 2009 the Manama Singers
and  Bahrain Sinfonia assembled en mass for a
magical performance of Handel’s Messiah. The
Singers were  joined by choral groups from Abu Dhabi,
Dhahran,  Dubai and  Oman bringing the entire choral
groups numbers to an amazing 140 voices.  The
singers were accompanied by the Bahrain Sinfonia,
led by the acclaimed violinist John Perkins.

Our very successful Christmas concerts are known to
launch the festive season here in Bahrain and once
again the Christmas season of 2010 saw the singers
performing twice to packed houses.

Singing is our passion and the Manama Singers
continue to branch into varied  genres of music in
order to challenge ourselves as musicians and truly
entertain our audiences. Over the years and since its
inception, many of  the Manama Singers’ dreams have
been brought to fruition by the generous sponsorship
of individuals and companies.

Martin Whitaker and Fred Donnelly are true friends of
the Arts. Their patronage has, over the years, enabled
our choir to achieve its goals.    We are also
supported by a dedicated team of Committee members
who help steer the ship in the right direction!  From
2003 to 2010 our visionary Music Director Alistair
Auld  continuously challenged us as a choir and
stretched us musically.

Every Tuesday evening we meet to rehearse in St.
Christopher’s Cathedral.  All are very welcome and
auditions are not required for new members.  We
perform four major concerts annually.  We invite
choirs from Oman, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and
Dhahran to join us for larger productions.  Musicians
from the Gulf and beyond, fly  to Bahrain to play with
our resident orchestra the Bahrain Sinfonia.  We
delight in the fact that we can contribute to the culture
and the arts in this region and that we can facilitate the
coming together of great singers and musicians in
Bahrain.
